“The Empress of Silk Spirit”
Materials: Cotton, silk yarn, polyfill, silk.
Size: 22 inches.  Year created: 2023
Description
I believe there is a spirit in every living thing. This is an imaginary creature who stands for a silk spirit. It was made for the Challenge Doll of the 2023 NIADA conference.
I made the empress as I was inspired by a silk moth, so I made antennae that look like combs. She is wearing ‘DangUi’ which is a dress of a royal woman. I used the selvage from a silk machine to make her long vest Korean traditional costume. The selvage was a good material to express the fur of a silk moth, and it was used for up-cycling ideas.

“Hwaseonrang & Okdangrang”
Materials: Cotton, Hanji paper, polyfill.
Size: Stands 22 inches. Year created: 2021.
Description
These two were made with Hanji, Korean Paper. They were named after the names of representative Hanji, Hwaseonji and Okdangji. Dak paper dolls are well known for Hanji doll, and they are being made by many doll artists. Dak paper doll is made in the way to paste paper with glue not to sew. As my main medium is cloth, I wanted to make dolls in the way to sew Hanji like cloth. However, Hanji is not easy to sew, so it needs getting through a special process to be tough. Then it becomes durable enough to sew. It turned out the old saying “Where there is a will, there is a way” is true.

“Seokryurang & Daechurang”
Materials: Cotton, silk, polyfill.
Size: 23 inches. Year created: 2021
Description
The girl “Seokryurang” stands for the spirit of pomegranate and “Daechurang” stands for the spirit of jujube. “Seokryurang” is wearing a pomegranate Jokduri on her head and “Daechurang” is wearing a hat with jujube flowers. They are dressed up in Hanbok, Korea traditional costumes, which were made with Jinju silk. They are friends and like each other.

“Mosirang”
Materials: Cotton, linen, polyfill, yarn.
Size: 22 inches. Year created: 2022
Description
I named this doll “Mosirang” which means linen spirit because she is wearing a linen dress. In Korea, we like to wear linen clothes made in summer. It is strong and airy. I hand-dyed with natural dye. Her head decoration is called ‘Jokduri’ and I embroidered wild flowers on the top. This doll has the jointed fingers. I have tried to make cloth dolls with joints in elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles. This time I tried to make joints in fingers.
