THE NIADA BOOK PROJECT:
DEADLINE: February 15, 2022
In 2009, the 425-page NIADA Art Dolls: Rich Traditions, New Ideas book was published, representing every artist who had been elected into artist membership since NIADA was founded in 1963. Since that time, 30 artists have been elected into membership. We are in the beginning stages of creating a second volume that will represent your work as well as document the growth and changes in NIADA in the past 13 years.
Even if you are no longer an active member, we would like to include you in this historical record of NIADA’s membership. To ensure that we include images that you feel best represents your body of work, we are asking for your cooperation in providing images and a small amount of text.
Your images do not have to be of brand new or even current work, but of what you think best represents you as an artist. They can represent different stages of your career, if that is how you wish your work to be archived, or they can all be of your most current, most evolved work.
Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation, as well as your contributions to the book. This will be a permanent record of your membership in NIADA, and we hope you are as excited about this as we are. We look forward to preserving your legacy with NIADA.

TO: email@example.com TITLE: NIADA Book Project Images
THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED
ARTIST INFO – BIO/STATEMENT – UP TO 6 IMAGES – HEADSHOT
Write a 120 word or less bio and/or artist’s statement, this is for the Artist Index and will accompany your headshot (see Images below). Please write this in the third person (e.g. “Shelley Thornton had decided she was an artist by the age of two. Before becoming a dollmaker in 1993, she…”) Do not use “I” unless formatted as a quote within your text.
SPACE IS LIMITED — PLEASE KEEP WITHIN 120 WORDS OR LESS.
• Send us up to 6 images of your best and favorite work to date. In addition, you can send secondary views, backs, or details of the pieces in the 6 images (optional). We may not use all of your images but would like a choice. Photographer credit: The Conference photographers are listed on the form.
• Please send one headshot photo of yourself (separate headshots for teams).
• Design for Production If you have done design work for manufacture or editions, please send us up to 3 images of this type of work, in addition to your one-of-a-kinds. As above, secondary views, backs, or details of the 3 pieces are welcome. Please mark the images as manufactured or editions.
The book will be divided into sections on the various media.
The category sections planned are:
Air Dry Clay | Fiber Art | Paper Art | Polymer Clay | Wood | Porcelain
Resin | Mixed Media | 3D Printing | Design for Production
PLEASE NOTE Although the majority of artists’ work would technically fall into ‘Mixed Media’ we would like each artist to specifically designate a category best suited for each piece (usually determined by what the head is made of).
This way, the ‘Mixed Media’ section will not be over-represented and some artists’ work will be seen through the book if they work in multiple mediums. (i.e. Chris+Peter’s automata would fall into “Mixed Media”, their regular figures would be under “Resin” or “3D Printing”).
IMAGES MUST BE LABELED AS REQUESTED DO NOT SEND ANY IMAGES WITHOUT A FILE NAME!
For example: If the photo from your camera is labeled ‘IMG_0752.jpg’ we will not be able to identify your artwork among the other files so cannot use it. Label each of your image files with your LAST NAME-DOLL NAME and numbers 001-006. If sending a close-up image, add the letter ‘C’ to the file. Do not add the full title of the piece, just one word only, for example, Lastname-Dollname001.jpg and Lastname-Dollname-001C.jpg for the close-up.
