Leda
Leda was inspired by an article about a recently uncovered fresco in Pompeii of “Leda and the Swan”. The archeologist described Leda as appearing “particularly seductive”. I thought she looked rather unhappy, and considering the situation, one would assume she was. My Leda decides she doesn’t want to be “seduced” by Zeus and takes matters into her own hands. She is a Leda for the modern age.

Quiet
Quiet is a woman screaming into the wind. She is being tattered and torn by the wind’s force and semi collapsing from the anguish she feels. But she still leans forward and tries. She is visual representation of the struggle to be heard as a woman, the endless fight against misogyny, and the sorrow of current events.

Defenses
Defenses was initially inspired by the shape of a sea shell. I was fascinated by the thought of unfolding or unwinding from a spiral, and how that correlates to emotional and artistic growth.  It also made me consider how women always need to protect themselves, how they are never truly free from considering their safety as they go about their lives. Defenses is opening, but in a question mark shape. And she has her rather intimidating spikes, just in case.

Ambushed
A tiger and cub pair is called an ambush. In Ambushed, a young woman is sitting comfortably on the back of a tigress, in a potentially precarious position. I was exploring how young women ride forward on the work done by generations in the past. I think many women don’t realize the effort that has been done by previous generations and find it sometimes too easy to just accept the status quo. When you don’t know what battles have been fought in the past, things can easily slide without you noticing.
