NIADA Art Dolls: Rich Traditions, New Ideas
is
ready for purchase!
"This glorious work from the
National Institute of American Doll Artists (NIADA)
is a feast for the eyes. At 429 pages, the book
is a full-fledged banquet composed of an incredible
number of courses sweet, savory, plus every taste
in between. A more completely satisfying work of
doll art in all its varieties and expressions is
incomprehensible.
The volume contains a seemingly infinite
number of rich color plates, which nourish each of
one's senses. A history detailing the formation
and early years of NIADA sets the tone, then, the
reader is set to explore dolls as art, thoughtfully
compartmentalized by mediums. A very interesting
feature of the book is the photographic and biographical
information, which introduces the reader to individual
NIADA artists who worked from the inception of the
organization to those working today." ~ UFDC

VIDEOS
ROBERT
McKINLEY'S DOLLMAKING WORKSHOP
"A teacher is like
a candle...it consumes itself to light the
way for others."
This was BOB McKINLEY.
"He spent countless hours creating this
wonderful teaching tool. (originally four videotapes,
over eight hours of viewing time)! Even when
he knew how ill he was, he kept on going until
the task was done.
This was BOB McKINLEY.
We worked together on the editing with him
pausing to rest at many intervals. ( He was
so tired by this time ). Bob knew this was
to be the last thing he would do and he wanted
it done right...and it was.
This was BOB McKINLEY.
It is so
right and so comprehensive it has become the
dollmaking bible for artists worldwide... and
it has become his legacy. We now offer it as
a two DVD set and it is an invaluable treasure
in more ways than can be enumerated here.
You'll see.

Dollmaker’s Art: The Creations
of Nancy Wiley
by Louise Fecher
Since making her
first doll in 1989, artist Nancy Wiley
has earned recognition and accolades
both within and outside of the doll
field. Her stylized and imaginative
figures have been featured in magazines
such as Mary Englbreit’s Home
Companion, In Style and George,
as well as all the major doll-collecting
publications. A Dollmaker’s
Art showcases 85 of Ms. Wiley’s
dolls in full-color photos, organized
by theme and presented with insightful
commentaries from the artist, and includes
a step-by-step photo essay that demonstrates
the development of one doll from start
to finish.
The collection includes
several never-before-seen pieces created
for debut at the artist’ s one-woman
show at the Muscatine Art Center in Iowa
from August 15-December 19, 2004. Author
Louise Fecher, longtime writer and researcher
in the field of contemporary artist dolls,
who also wrote Here Come the Bride
Dolls (Portfolio Press, 2001), extensively
interviewed Ms. Wiley’s family,
friends, colleagues and critics to create
an engaging biographical profile that
traces the evolution of this dynamic
artist.
