"Forever
Babe"
|
I
consider myself blessed.
I
grew up in a creative and nurturing environment.
Perhaps my ear was genetically tuned, but for whatever
the reason, when my muse called to me, I heard her
sweet song. I have willingly and joyfully followed
her down the path of self-expression. This way of
life has become a platform for my growth as a woman,
a wife, a mother and an artist.

"Forever
Babe"

My
art has always been in the realm of fantasy. Having
had no formal training and possessing a vivid imagination,
I feel free to express myself within the scope of
imaginary creatures. Each and every piece becomes
a personal training ground. I am passionately driven
to create. From the time I first heard my muse call,
25 years ago, I have created and sculpted almost
every single day. And only because I love it so
much, and there is so much to learn and so much
to express.
And
now, after all these years, I find myself able to
look back and appreciate the joy of it all. To be
able to call myself a doll artist is to say that
I have been gifted with the privilege of working
in this particular arena. To be a doll artist is
to step into a space of multi-media, filled with
the challenges of design, balance, and form. It
is to use clay, paint, fabric and found objects
to express an idea, a vision. Given that it is still
considered a new art form, I feel honored to be
part of defining the parameters and presenting it
to the public forum. It is so inspiring to see the
forms that fall within this field. It is never-ending,
ever-challenging and oh, so heart warming!
In
the more recent years, since moving to Hawaii, my
pieces have gotten more sculptural. Hardscape, I
call them. The beauty of Italian glass has captured
my imagination and has all but replaced fabric.
The dance of light on the mirrored glass tiles intrigues
and challenges me.
New visions appear and I am once again lost to the
song of my muse.
